La Jolla, California - I have photographed under many piers throughout my photographic career, but there are none more captivating than the Scripps Pier in La Jolla California. The tall concrete pilings create a perfect doorway that frames in the sea, and encapsulates the beautiful California Coast. It is the perfect combination of architecture and nature working together in a photograph. The Scripps Pier is a vital oceanographic research center for Scripps institute. It is the home to many environmental monitoring stations, and a jumping off point for research expeditions.
